2009 World Conference: “In Christ: Living Life to the Full”

KOREA – The International Lutheran Council held its 23rd World Conference from August 26-31, 2009, in Seoul, Korea. The theme for the conference was “In Christ: Living Life to the Full.”
Major papers given during the conference included “The Fragrance of Christ” by Dr. John D. Ekrich (USA); “The Power of We: Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual Fullness” by Dr. David Ludwig (USA); and “Physical Fullness” by Dr. John Ekrich (USA).

Executive Committee.
President Gerald Kieschnick of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) was reelected to serve as Chairman of the ILC. President Gijsbertus van Hattem was newly elected to serve as Secretary. Church bodies elected to serve as regional representatives include the Lutheran Church of Nigeria (Africa); the Lutheran Church in the Philippines (Asia and Australia); Germany’s Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (Europe); the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil (Latin America); and Lutheran Church–Canada (North America).
Among other business, the 2009 World Conference saw the ILC unanimously adopt a statement addressing “Same-Gender Relationships and the Church.”
The 23rd World Conference brought together representatives from 31 ILC member churches plus several guest churches.
